This design is a wave / ripple lace stitch made with double crochets and chain spaces.

Wave Lace Crochet Pattern

Stitch multiple: 18 stitches + 2 turning chains
(Each wave repeat is 18 stitches wide.)

Stitches used:

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sk = skip
  • sp = space

📌 Row-by-Row Instructions

1️⃣ Foundation

Chain a multiple of 18 + 2
(example: for 3 repeats → 18×3 = 54 + 2 = 56 chains)

2️⃣ Row 1

Work all double crochet:

  • Dc in 3rd ch from hook
  • Dc in each chain across
    → Turn.

This creates a solid base.

3️⃣ Row 2 – Begin Waves

Repeat the following across the row:

Wave repeat (18 sts):

  1. dc 9
  2. ch 3, sk 3
  3. dc 6

→ Turn.

This forms the base of the curves.

4️⃣ Row 3 – Curving the Wave

For each 18-st repeat:

  1. dc 6
  2. dc 3 in the next 3 dcs (one in each)
  3. (dc, ch 3, dc) in ch-3 space
  4. dc 3
  5. dc 6

→ Turn.

You’ll see the wave shape starting.

5️⃣ Row 4 – Openwork Wave

For each repeat:

  1. dc 6
  2. ch 3, sk 3
  3. dc 3
  4. (dc, ch 5, dc) in ch-3 space
  5. dc 3
  6. ch 3, sk 3
  7. dc 6

→ Turn.

This row creates the oval lace holes.

6️⃣ Row 5 – Close the Wave

For each repeat:

  1. dc 6
  2. dc 3
  3. 5 dc in the ch-5 space
  4. dc 3
  5. dc 6

→ Turn.

You now completed one full wave.

🔁 Continue repeating Rows 2–5

These 4 rows create the exact pattern in your photo.

✔ Tips for Matching the Look

  • Use thin cotton thread (size 0 or 1)
  • Hook size: 1.25–1.75 mm
  • Light blocking makes the waves stand out beautifully.
